An excellent open pollinated selection of Tuscan Kale with blue strap like foliage bred by Carole Deppe in Oregon. Selected to have soft foliage and mild sweet but peppery flavours without the strong bitter tastes and firmer leaves associated with this variety It gets to be about 1.2m tall by 40cm. Sow late summer or early spring 5mm deep in furrows as individual seeds 35cm apart and 40 cm between the row. Feed with COF three times throughout the growing season. The plants do best at 40cm spacings because of their large root systems.

I planted in early February in a cool summer. By late March they had grown masses of broad healthy leaves on neat plants. The plant is much more compact than any other Tuscan kale I’ve grown with a short distance between leaf nodes. It’s early April but I am waiting for some chilly nights to sweeten it up before harvesting
