A cylindrical slightly larger carrot than early chantenay Cultivation: Carrots need deep, well cultivated or sandy soils. Dig in plenty of well rotted compost in Autumn. For best crops, sow a green manure crop in Autumn and dig in over Winter, before sowing carrots in Spring. Add a base dressing of organic fertiliser to the beds. Sow Oct – mid Feb in warm soils, 5 mm deep, 45cm apart. Mix with fine sand to aid sowing, cover with fine sand or sifted compost. Germination about 10-14 days.
