|When to sow||
Autumn, Spring, Summer
This particular selection, by Bob Reid, was collected from a village in Portugal. It has large smooth sweet flavoured soft leaves, ideal for all recipes using cabbage leaves. The plant grows to about 1m by 1m and produces plentiful leaves throughout the year, so leave enough room for this plant to occupy. It is very slow to go to seed.
Sow late February/March and September/October, 5mm deep in seed tray or open ground. Thin out when plants are 12 cm tall. Allow 40 cm between plants. Apply 100g per sqm of Complete Organic Fertiliser.
