Excellent for improving sandy and silty soils. Competes well with annual and perennial weeds. Dense cover of fine leaved, soft stemmed, blue flowering plants. Cut at ground level, leave to break down before digging in. High in nitrogen. Sow Autumn to early Winter. Scatter seed and rake in to a depth of 50mm. Very important as a green manure, but even more interesting is that the seeds in storage are not attacked by rodent, and when grown wildlife is wary and tend to leave them alone.
